Armory Square arsonist pleads no contest

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION – A paraplegic Windsor man, who had been facing the potential of life in prison after he lit the devastating fire late last year that damaged several apartments in the Armory Square block in Windsor, struck a plea deal Friday that calls for him to spend, at most, three-and-a-half years behind bars.

Gary Hogge Sr., 39, plead no contest during a brief hearing in Windsor District Court in downtown White River Junction Friday afternoon to first degree arson, reckless endangerment and a separate count of simple assault on a correctional officer. The latter charge stems from an incident in which Hogge threw boiling water on a guard March 31 of this year as he was being held in pre-trial detention.
